I have some really amusing kids....

Before I start, I want to mention a friend for a minute. She flew into the Kansas City ariport a week ago and lost a straw bag, in which she had allergy meds and a bunch of camera stuff. Very nice camera, but the most important thing to her is the memory card in it! She has pics of her family: a cousin's wedding, her own kids, and other family members. If you, or anyone you know, is in the KC area and might know anything about it, shoot me an email? That'd be awesome ~ thanks! =)

Today, it is specifically the younger child - Miss Hurricane.

Backstory:
Thursday, January 13, we were having dinner. Dinner usually brings a mini-lesson in history from Ardeo, since it's his favorite subject (and one in which he holds a degree!); this is just days before the kids will be out of school for Martin Luther King Day, and they both have heard bits and pieces in school years past.
Ardeo and I were talking about First Lady Michelle Obama. Specifically, that she is the daughter of two black people, and her husband is biracial - literally born to a black African and a white American. Just so the kids understand that the term 'African-American' would fit the President moreso than his wife - see, we sneaked in a little etymology too! (Come have dinner with us sometime, you'll always learn something! LOL) Anyway - we were talking about MLK and his beliefs and the things he was working to change before his death. I don't remember the conversation verbatim because I was *totally* thrown off by Miss Hurricane's early interjection:

"OH MOM! Did you know, there are GHOSTS in the WHITE HOUSE?!"
After which she began to tell us alllll about the ghosts, and she'd read about them in a book at school (Ghosts of the White House by Cheryl Harness), and she wondered aloud if Mrs. Obama had ever *seen* the ghosts, and "do you think she's afraid of them? Because Dolly Madison gets MAD if you try to take her roses!"

I think I had a mouth full of food, so it was all I could do to NOT laugh. She was so.intensely.serious. about it all! But, if you click through the links above, you'll see that she was right. So, a few minutes later, she asked if she could write a letter to Mrs. Obama; "of course you can, after dinner", since I knew we have two stamps left. (=
I don't have a scanner, but I do have a camera. Here's her (unsent) letter - we just HAVE to keep this one for the scrapbook:

(I did the best I could, but there's still a glare. Here it is, with all the grammar and spelling mistakes left in - they're too funny to edit and you are smart enough to figure them out!)

"Dear Mrs. Oobama, Jan.13, 2011
Did you know that the Wighthouse is HANTED!?!? It is by Lincon and Dolly (,Witch are the) (only gohsts I know) (are there). When a women saw Lincon, she fainted! If you take out 1 rosebush, Dolly get mad and I mean MAD!!!
Rules:
Do not take a rose Try to act as calm as you can if you see Lincon.
Simple."

I fell over laughing so many times just looking at it - but even better is the back side! Look:

"ABERHAM LINCON
is a
GOHST!!!"

{like Inky??}

Oh mercy, that ghost drawing...

and how "MAD!!!" Dolley Madison gets if you take just *1* rose...
*dies laughing*

This kid is comedy gold, like her father.

*giggle*
Ahem. It is now time to meet her at the bus stop. I have been working on this since 11:30 while I was eating lunch. Since I finished eating, it's been a battle of laughing quietly at the note in front of me while Ardeo was on the phone with Microsoft for over an hour (it was about the XBox, and they are still douchebags.) - I was literally in tears a couple times. All good now, and just in time! Have a great week peeps!

Welcome to 2011!

{I realize that I've been away for a couple months. I'm looking for work, and when not doing that, I'm trying to fit in more sewing-for-profit. I'll do a proper catch-up post soon, but for now this is what I've got.}

So ~ happy new year!! Last night was the first time in my married life that I had my husband with me at the stroke of midnight. In years past, he'd been at work, and/or the kids & I were at Mom's visiting because he had to work around the NYE holiday. It was really nice to have my little family together, with me, as we transitioned to a new year. Also, I finally got to kiss someone at midnight! =D

As I have done many times, I watched the Dick Clark NYRE special on ABC. I made a point to have it on last night so I could see my childhood sweeties perform - NKOTB (and the BackStreet Boys)! I went to see New Kids live back in 1990, and I still have my ticket stub in a scrapbook ~ God bless my awesome dad, who went to the show with his screaming 12yo daughter!  LOL ~ I never was a big fan of BSB, but only because I was a little older when they came into popularity (I think I was 15ish and big into Metallica, et. al., by that time... ). Some of their songs are familiar to me, and they're not bad ~

Ah, but that NKOTB concert night is a memory I have locked in my mind, quite vividly. And Dad is still around, cool as ever, so you know he made it out okay too!  (=   The next time I get to visit Mom's for a few days, I'll get that scrapbook out and take a picture or scan my ticket stub.

And, speaking of pictures, I now have our entire iPhoto library on my laptop (as well as 2 separate backups on other devices!), and will soon have new pictures up here. The kids had their school pics taken just a couple months ago; we also had a new family picture taken, as our last one was almost 5y old! I also have newer pictures of nearly everyone, from Thanksgiving and Christmas 2010.
Everyone is up from naps now - we all stayed up last night, but it's time to get the kids back on their school schedule! - so it's time for me to wrap this up. I have a couple of new sewing projects I want to start (and hopefully finish within two weeks' time) and I need to get started on them.... as well as the usual 'mom' stuff. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da!

Namaste ~ Love and Light and Good Health to you!
